Plain bearings for thermal management

The alternative to carbon graphite bearings in coolant pumps and valves

With the continuing trend towards BEV, PHEV and HEV, the importance of thermal management (TM) is increasing and with it the demands on the systems. igus offers the right bearing for various TM applications such as water pumps and cooling water manufacturers and will be happy to support you in your selection.

Bearing requirements in TM applications:

  • Resistance to water-glycol
  • Temperatures up to 150°C
  • No leakage over service life
  • Resistant to contamination from moulding sand

Advantages of igus plain bearings:

  • Cost advantages over carbon graphite, PTFE and ceramic bearings
  • Quiet operation
  • Up to 80% weight savings
  • Ideally suited in combination with plastic shafts
  • Overmoulding possible
Markus Feth, Head of Automotive iglidur Bearing Technology, explains the advantages of iglidur plain bearings compared to carbon graphite bearings in coolant pumps.

Suitable products

NEW: iglidur H3

Particularly wear-resistant, high elongation at break and chemical resistance

iglidur H370

Maximum service life under water with high media resistance and load capacity

iglidur H1

High media and temperature resistance, very low coefficients of friction

iglidur H4

High chemical and temperature resistance -40°C to +200°C

Special bearings

For an even better flow with the water-glycol mixture, we also manufacture plain bearings in a special design with radial or axial grooves.
