The APLOS U600 five-axis machine tool with direct drive

Many different cable types are used in the power supply system of the APLOS U600 full direct drive cradle 5-axis machine tool, including servo cables, control cables, power cables and pneumatic hoses. In order to reduce the required installation space of the chain system and also the required drive force, the cables must be arranged in the best possible way. The scope of delivery includes the complete chain system including interior separation, cable and connector. Installation is quick and easy for the user. "APLOS is derived from the Greek word Aplós. It means simple and represents a simpler and more reliable structure of machine tools with direct drive technology", explained Chao Luo.

Problem

The power supply system of the cradle 5-axis machine tool is very complex and must fulfil the requirements for the moving power supply of the X, Y and Z axes and the coupled power supply of the cradle-type AC turntable. This poses a challenge for the cable. The machine tool designers at APLOS needed a complete solution that would avoid the risk of the power supply system failing, e.g. due to a cable break or being thrown away by acceleration to over 1G. "We have very high requirements for machine tools and accessories. The dynamic performance and reliability of the chain system are the most important points of our considerations." Chao Luo, General Manager of APLOS, said.

Solution

The highly flexible CF270.UL-series chainflex servo cable was used here. The short stranding pitches can optimally balance the resulting forces. The shielding with its flat braid angle provides over 80% coverage. And with the possible bend radius of 10x d, this cable once again creates space within the installation. Conditions in machine tools are often harsh. The PUR outer jacket can counter this with its notched toughness and resistance to oil and coolants and guarantee a long service life.

APLOS U600

The APLOS U600 5-axis machining centre with full direct drive shell can achieve a fast movement speed of 60 m/min, a positioning accuracy of 3 μm and a repeat positioning accuracy of 2 μm.
